Chip Board or Corrugated Dividers? April 06 2020

Although most corrugated boxes are referred to as cardboard boxes, there is a distinct difference in their respective structures. Multiple sheets of fiberboard compose the structured layers of corrugated boxes, while cardboard consists of a single layer of heavy-duty paperboard. These small variations in construction make a big difference when it comes to dividers, cartons, and logistics of a product.

Chip Board

Chipboard, also known as paperboard or particleboard, is a versatile and robust divider material made from recycled paper. It is manufactured by layering fragments of recycled paper, cardboard and using a synthetic adhesive to glue the layers together before heat and pressure are applied to this conglomeration of paper products to form a bulky but flexible material.

Omega Packaging provides various thickness of Chip Board Dividers and products from 0.4mm to 0.8mm thick.

Advantages of Chip Board

Chip Board Dividers take up much less space than corrugated and in the form of Dividers, as it is made up of a single layer without fluting

Without compromising the benefit of preventing products from touching each other, Chip Board Dividers are cheaper than corrugated dividers

Benefits do not stop at the price of the divider, but Chip Board dividers enable your product shipping carton to reduce in size, furthermore likely reducing your transport costs by increasing your packing quantities.

Corrugated

Omega Packaging mainly offers Corrugated Dividers out of B Flute Single Wall Corrugated Materials. It is rare that another medium is required for the purpose of Dividers.

Different Structured layers of Corrugated Material:

  • Single-face: One linerboard is adhered to one corrugated medium.
  • Single-wall: One corrugated medium is sandwiched between two linerboards.
  • Double-wall: Two corrugated mediums are arranged between three linerboards.
  • Triple-wall: Three corrugated mediums are arranged between four linerboards.

Within mediums, each medium can host different flutes. It all depends on what corrugated design works best for a business’s particular shipping needs.

Advantages of Corrugated Dividers

Corrugated Dividers are useful as spacers, when cartons are larger and extra space exists inside the shipper carton.

When made to the full height of the carton, the Divider should increase the overall stacking strength of the carton, for the purpose of stacking cartons on top of each other.

Corrugated Dividers offer less movement inside the shipping carton that could be caused by vibration during transport, keeping the divider in place inside the shipping carton.
